The Importance of Navigation
Combined Structure
The Combined Structure is one that we routinely recommend to our clients. To include both the social aspects of VLE use and a clear defined path for navigation to Learning content makes the use of the VLE more attractive.
The User-centric aspects of the Navigation, allows use of the VLE as discussion and exchange platform.
The Subject-based approach allows a more direct navigation to teaching and learning materials and content.
Within the Combined structure, the Students space (in the User-centric context) can then be transformed in to a Showcase or Highlights Area for students to take responsibility and control of. This, we have found, gives students a sense of ownership for the VLE and greatly encourages and enhances use.
How have you structured your VLE? What have you found particularly exciting about deciding how the VLE should be structured?
