The Importance of Navigation
Subject-based Structure
Different from the User-based Structure, the Subject-based structure is perhaps the more commonly used approach to navigation. It works best for Secondary schools and Colleges.
Using first the Subjects (for E.g. English, Maths, Science) as Categories, Year Groups (Year 7, Year 8 etc.) or Sets, or any other grouping of students can then be defined as Courses. Each relevant Topic may then pertain to each topic within the subject.
So for example, with a Maths Category, this may be followed by a Course area for Year 11s, and a Algebra Topic.
A Subject-based Navigation structure often denotes a clear path to information for Students. This is possibly the most native of Navigation Structures.
